After 20 years, the vines were mature enough to resume the ancient custom of growing Cesanese even on those strips of marine sandstone that the Romans used to build artificial lakes in the valley floors. The sand undoubtedly provides warmth, and a body that, with its light flavor, fills but doesn’t overwhelm. But the transition from grape to wine back into the earth (amphorae) also amplifies its hidden charm.
